The Australian Asbestos Network website is an outcome of a National Health and Medical Research Council research project funded which began in 2006. The project aims to develop an online resource for anyone in the community who wants to find out more about asbestos; its historical legacy, current impacts on Australian society and the ways in which we can all help to minimise its harmful effects on our health and wellbeing.
The project was completed in 2012, however, this website remains live and supported by Murdoch University.
This website is comprehensive and does require some time to explore. In the blue left hand column are links to the main sections: Asbestos Stories, Learn about Asbestos, and Useful Resources.
In 2018, the AAN project was developed into an Australia Research Council I pact case study,, which details the impact of the project over time. You can read about it here.
The website has also been built to run at its optimum level in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or above. You can also use Mozilla Firefox.
We hope that you will find the website useful and informative.
